Thomas Edwin Blumberg

Tom Blumberg, age 72, died at home, surrounded by family, on August 19, 2026, following a 2-decade battle with prostate cancer.

A life-long resident of Hillsborough and San Francisco, he attended Lick Wilmerding High School in San Francisco, received his BS from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Graduate School of Management at UCLA.

Early in his career, he was employed by Mendelson-Zeller Company, a distributor and broker of fresh vegetables and fruits. He later worked for Bank America Mortgage and finally, US Carbon Corporation and Trivest Property Company where he was involved in operations, property management, commercial real estate financing and investing for more than 35 years. He was an early member of the Belden Club and belonged to the Concordia Argonaut Club along with numerous business and social organizations. He remained actively involved with Lick Wilmerding High School for decades and served as a member of the Alumni Association Board of Trustees.

Tom was devoted to family, friends and community. He was a Hillsborough Little League and AYSO Soccer coach and manager. He organized reunions for fellow classmates from his grammar through graduate schools. He took joy in introducing friends to other friends. Among neighbors and friends, he was known as Mr. Fixit for his passion for helping others, be it repairing a faucet or solving a problem. He was supportive, generous and protective of the people he cared about. His quick wit, dry humor and fascination with dates and numbers endeared him to friends and acquaintances.

Tom enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad, and he prided himself on visiting the 50 US states before he turned 50. While he supported all Bay Area pro sports teams, his first love was Willie Mays and the Giants. Over the last several decades, he was an active member of the Bay Area Cobra Club (sportscar) where he developed important long-lasting friendships, created member calendars, coordinated car rallies and attended regular gatherings in the East and West Bay and as far away as Tahoe and Southern California.

Tom was pre-deceased by his parents Ted Blumberg and Jane Blumberg Goldberg and his stepfather, Admiral Herschel Goldberg. He leaves behind his cherished wife of almost 40 years, Maggie, and their loving son, Mike, as well as sisters Peggy Kostick (Neil) of Berkeley and Bonnie Marantette (Tom) of Saratoga. He was the beloved uncle of nieces Sarah, Talia, Jenni, Michelle, Katie, Maggie and Jenny and nephews Jesse, Joe and James.
